New York Engagement - Jacqueline & Thomas

2012-05-02JacquelineThomasEngagementSession-101.jpg

I'm so happy to share these photos from Jacqueline and Thomas' engagement session! We shot in the lower east side of Manhattan in Stuyvesant Town. With NY's unpredictable weather, it was raining a bit, but you couldn't tell with the way J + T smiled at one another! L-O-V-E was definitely in the air and these two college sweethearts deserves so much happiness. We centered our session in front of the Stuy-town fountain since that was the location where Thomas proposed. Very sweet and I wish them all the very best! Here's a few images from their fun session. My favorite (and J + T's favorite too) is the pose with the squirrell. I swear Mr. Squirrell...I shall name him Jack... wanted to be part of the shoot. He was staring at us for quite awhile until he finally photo bombed the picture! Sneaky little thing. He stole the show, but only for a moment :-). NYC Engagement Photography in Grand Central & The Highline & Chelsea Market - Kristy and Phil

2012-04-22KristyPhilEngagementTEASERS-2.jpg

Had such a great time shooting Kristy and Phil's engagement photography in Chelsea and Grand Central in New York City! You never knew it was raining since with the two of them in front of the camera, all you see is sunshine (event if it didn't come out!), fun times, and a lot of love and laughter. A very beautiful couple and very stylish too! Look at their various outfit changes during the session. Kristy and Phil definitely have great taste! Kristy's makeup and hair was courtesy of  Jennifer Paelmo of JP Makeup and Design ...didn't she do an amazing job!!! Not that Kristy needed it, but with Kristy and Phil's sense of fashion and add the makeup and hair design, the session definitely had that timeless/chic feel. Also on board during the shoot was Ivie Joy Flowers + Events  who provided the gorgeous bouquet (that the photographer happily kept!!!! yes...I love flowers and will say yes to free flowers since they make me feel happy!) that Kristy held during a few of her looks and the boutonniere Phil wore on his jacket. If you're also noticing the gorgeous jewelry Kristy is wearing, they were provided courtesy of Annie Simsuangco, Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot. This is one my favorite engagement session to date with many dedicated creative individuals, including the amazing couple, who made it all happen!!! So colorful, fun, has a period feel, very stylish, and VERY chic!!! Thanks to everyone who made the couple look fabulous, but mostly thanks to Kristy and Phil for giving me the honor of capturing their engagement session. This photographer definitely cannot wait for their destination wedding in Barbados in December!!! I'm just imagining all the beautiful colors and scenery I will capture during their special day. Just thinking about it makes me want to skip spring and summer and fall and jump into winter...'cause hey...I'm going to Barbados with a fun bride and groom!!! Look at the eye candy below, and if you're interested in knowing where these two got their fun wardrobe from, read below since I did my best to lay them all out in detail. If you're also interested in makeup and hair services feel free to contact Jennifer Paelmo, for floral and event design contact Ivie Joy, and for fabulous jewelry Stella & Dot! You can also contact me and I will be happy to introduce you :-).

New York City Wedding of T+M on Valentine's Day

Congratulations again to Tina and Matt for starting their new adventure together on Valentine's Day! Here's a few teasers from their big day. A very simple ceremony for two very special individuals made this day even better. Good thing it was a warmer day last Tuesday and Tina and Matt were good sports about taking off their coats to get these great shots!

S + A Long Island New York Wedding, Westbury Manor Teasers!

2011-11-19SabrinaDrewWestburyManorWEB-726.jpg

I had such a pleasure being the photographer for  Sabrina and Drew's New York wedding at the Westbury Manor in Long Island! The venue had great food, and beautiful settings for photos indoor and outdoor. The garden had peacocks that were happy to have their pictures taken (I think they expected it and took offense if you didn't!), a bridge over a little river, seating area and more. A perfect place for a perfect wedding. Sabrina and Drew are not just your regular or ordinary couple. They're creative, no-nonsense bride and groom who likes to get things done. Their wedding was very touching and approximately 300 guests attended the big day to witness their matrimony. The wedding was simple, but not traditional and that's how the bride and groom wanted it. Guests arrived in droves and with so many happy faces, it was truly fun to photograph their reaction and their little moments during the wedding. One thing with being the photographer, you get to meet so many people and during weddings everyone is happy and enjoying themselves. It's always good to be surrounded with happy people! The surroundings were even more complimented by the details. I LOVE the details they had at the wedding. Wall-E and Eva as the cake topper is such a cute idea!!!! The ode to the Beatles during the ceremony was definitely a hit and very memorable. It depicted their relationship and allowed guests to really see  their history. I LOVED Sabrina's shoes and you can ask her how she came by them. Enjoy the teasers and can't wait to finish everything up!!!!

As if he's telling you that he's pretty and you better appreciate his feathers and get his good side...

Cell phones were not the only smart devices recording the wedding (in addition to The Godfather Films videography), iPads were there too and guests were happy to use them to videotape all the good details.

You already know I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! It's so perfect!

Engagement Session in New York Central Park-V&J

What a fun Engagement photography session! Love New York City in winter and any weather. It was definitely a cold day a few weeks ago, but Vanessa and Jermaine were such troopers that here we were in Central Park in New York...walking around looking like we were having fun for their engagement session...and we were! Despite the cold, these two carried on and made sure the weather didn't dampen our moods or our photo shoot! Good job guys! Here's a few teasers from the shoot! Hope to get to edit them all soon...cannot wait! The first is by a tunnel/bridge by the upper east side. We went through more areas on our way to Strawberry Field where John Lennon is memorialized with the simple work "IMAGINE." I LOVE how my August wedding couple from Staten Island did not hesitate to lay down and take the amazing shot! Actually...several shots. There were many tourists who were standing around wanting to take pictures with the famous emblem on the ground, but we were also not shy about standing our ground to make sure we were next...after all this was an engagement session and the others around us was more forgiving with our enthusiasm. As soon as we were up, off they went and there goes my bride and groom lying in concrete gazing at each other's eyes. Always wanted to do this idea for an e-shoot and finally accomplished it! Thanks V & J! You two are awesome for making this engagement shoot a smash hit. I have so much more pictures to show everyone, but have a lot of other pictures to edit first so please stay tuned and bear with me. I'm also posting pictures at my Facebook page here. Just IMAGINE all the possibilities and what the future holds for these two...cannot wait until August for their wedding in New Jersey!

We found a wooden bench at the end of The Ramble and it was such a scenic sight I had to take pics with it and have the forrest in the background. This was one of my favorite pictures because my assistant (which is also my wonderful and talented husband) was making jokes towards V& J making them laugh. Sometimes I need to tell hubby to tone it down, but sometimes he knows the right moment to make people laugh and the end result is this fun pic of V&J just happy as can be in their engagement shoot. :-).

Talk about LOVE BIRDS!!!!

Portraits Are More Than Paper - Why photographs are very important and lasts forever....

Today I read a post by Jeanine Thurston, re-posted by so many photographers and non-photographers alike, and the letter that created the post stirred old memories that I too had to post it: http://fototails.wordpress.com/2012/01/02/a-letter-on-my-doorstep-portraits-are-more-than-paper/ After reading the letter, I cannot help but feel this person's regret of not understanding how pictures are so much more lasting than "trivial" items. Portraits and photographs  are more than a piece of paper, since it helps memorialize an event or a person or a special memory of a newborn being born or children growing up with families, a wedding, and more. From time to time I do get the "oh no! there she is again!" when I take out my camera and start photographing family and friends when we're together privately or out so I can capture those memories.  Many say their memories are in their mind and do not need photographs or videos of an event, but for me, personally, I love having a tangible visual of an event or memory with my husband, family and friends. Why do I do it? I do it because I know memories are fleeting. Getting older, my memory is not what it was years ago...and that is scary. How many times have we told ourselves I'll remember this moment forever...but later stumble upon a picture (maybe years or weeks later) taken by someone else and you truly forgot that moment occurred? I LOVE going through my pictures from time to time and remembering time spent with those I love. I have folders of digital images going back from 1999 with a miscellaneous folder where I added scanned images of older paper photographs.

Maybe some think that going overboard...and some may think its not...but each of us must do what feels right and capturing memories the way I know how feels the right way. I also take pictures because I know often time pictures are all we may have left of someone one day. A sad thought but true...and it was true for Karen L. who wrote the letter. Her letter has made this past hour an emotional roller coaster, leaving people wondering why I look like I've been crying...so here I am pretending to have a cold, but in reality I'm remembering the feeling of not having that picture I wanted and needed of someone who suddenly passed on. When my father passed away in 2007, I was creating a memorial board of him, and realized that the last picture I took with him and I alone was taken...well I couldn't find one. Honestly the last good one (not blurry or anything else) was from 2001 when I graduated college. There was one picture from my birthday party my dad threw for me at his house in 2005 that had me, him and my siblings together, and I had to cut out my siblings so I can frame that picture of me and my dad in my apartment. The picture was also blurry, but it was all I had standing next to him. Other pictures before he passed was of me taking the picture, or a group picture. Just remembering that realization made me panic. This was the eve of my father's wake and I'm scrambling to find pictures of my dad and me and I couldn't find a one.

Photographs of any event or a portrait of your family or pictures with friends are something that should not be taken for granted. For many they are not just a want or a need, but a priceless memory that can be passed on. If you haven't read Karen L's letter, read on: http://fototails.wordpress.com/2012/01/02/a-letter-on-my-doorstep-portraits-are-more-than-paper/

Thank you Jeanine for posting this letter. Karen L. and many more are in my prayers.

Laurie & Glenn's Engagement Party - Green Cafe Bay Ridge Brooklyn

2011-11-26LaurenGlennEngagementPartyWEB-78a.jpg

Congratulations to Laurie and Glenn on their engagement party! Family and friends came together at the Greenhouse Cafe located in Bay Ridge Brooklyn to celebrate the couple on their journey. Every guest was laughing and smiling and you can definitely feel the love and happiness everyone was feeling. A few pictures from the event are below, but as with any event, being there in person is even better and I'm glad to have taken part of it!

Modern and Classy New York City Wedding at Rouge Tomate

2011-10-22RougeTomateWeddingCollageWEB.jpg

What a spectacular wedding at Rouge Tomate! The bride was beautiful with her simple gown and veil, which she finished with beautiful pearls. She carried a gorgeous bouquet designed by Celadon and Celery Events, who also conceived and implemented the design for the wedding. Rouge Tomate closed for the day, to many patron's regret (I do not blame them since the food is amazing!...yes, this photographer enjoys dinner and drinks at this well established Michelin rated restaurant!) since the main dining room was transformed into a cocktail space, and the lower level was transformed for the ceremony. The lower level was complete with a Chuppah adorned with orchids, candles, and roses. All in all, a very romantic and memorable evening! Congratulations again to the bride and groom! Engaged...now what? Consider a Destination Wedding!

Wedding006.jpg

Well congratulations new brides and grooms! You're engaged and cannot wait to start your future together! Now the, sometimes, dreaded questions..."where to start?" or "Now what?" comes along. That's where me and my now husband were almost two years ago, after the love of my life bought my engagement ring and popped the question. Of course from what I've been told he was a mess and researched the ring to death, learned the 4 C's, and questioned everyone about the process, but that's neither here nor there. Let's talk about the process of getting to the altar and what needs to be done. Unfortunately, we did the easy route...we opted for a destination wedding! It was truly the best decision we made and it was right for US. I guess I am biased when it comes to this topic, but let me share you our experience.

1. Choosing the venue...choosing a travel agent. For us, this goes hand in hand. We could have called hotels on our own and helped EVERYONE book their travel and accommodations, but we didn't particularly like the idea of the headache involved with someone needing to change their flight and making sure everyone was booked correctly. Instead, we researched agents that catered to Destination Weddings. Like many brides, I was hooked on The Knot and specifically on the Destination Wedding Board. We called ourselves DW KNotties and it was a great board to find help and advice. Many of the ladies used DestinationWeddings.com or Beach Bum Vacations. We liked the first and everything after that was easy...sort of!

2. Choosing the location. This was harder to do since we had a lot to consider. We definitely wanted the Destination Wedding. PERIOD. We knew many family and friends were not able to go (but you never know and guests may decide to come last minute) and if they really wanted to attend they'll be there. We also knew there were elderly aunts/uncles to consider so we also had to think about how they were going to travel. Add the fact we understand our families were on a budget, so we wanted to choose a location that was affordable, close to mostly everyone, and in a good price range that is also fun. Yea, a lot to look for, but first we set a budget, not for us necessarily, but for our guest. The budget was around $600-$900 for a 3-4 day weekend. To make it convenient for everyone, we chose an island in the east coast. We further narrowed it down to my husband not wanting to go to Jamaica, and me not wanting Mexico (all great locations by the way, so please go ahead and check them out!). In the end, with the help of our travel agent and the budget we gave him, he pointed us to Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. EXCELLENT! We looked at the venues within our budget for both islands and finally decided on Punta Cana, Dominican Republic...specifically Melia Caribe Tropical. It also helped that a few friends have stayed in the hotel and enjoyed it...PLUS it was an all-inclusive resort so the budget would include everyone's food. FOOD is very important in our family and with our friends so we had a winner. The images of the venue were great, had recommendations from friends, it was close to 90% of our guests, and it was budget friendly for a 3-4 day weekend.

3. Choosing a Wedding Package. For weddings, resorts will offer wedding packages that range from the basic to a regular wedding you would have in the U.S. MINUS the HUGE cost!  Since we've never really traveled other than cruises, we had no idea how hotels/catering/decor would be in any of the venues we may choose. Choosing the venue also meant choosing a package. So now that we did choose the venue, we needed to know what package to get and for how many people. We opted to send out a feeler evite/email to see how many truly wanted to attend. We let our guests know our decision to do a destination wedding, but wanted to get our guest's input on who was a real "yes" a "maybe" and a "no" and went from there. Around 80 responses said yes (out of 200+ guests) and so we worked with half that number and in the end ended up with over 65. Since we had a better idea of number of guests, we had our wedding coordinator at the hotel know the approximate range of guests that will be attending and she was more than happy to work with those numbers. FYI, we sent invites to everyone we invited and not just those individuals that replied "yes" to our evite/email feelers.

4. Catering/Flowers/Music: Unlike weddings in the states where a bride and groom would either need to get a wedding planner to suggest vendors, or the bride and groom themselves would research and book vendors on their own, me and my husband were shown what the hotel venue offered. For the reception it was either a sit down dinner with one option or a buffet with multiple options. For flowers they gave us samples of flower arrangements for bouquets and centerpieces that was part of our package. I love flowers and would loved to have brought in Celadon & Celery, but since they were booked we decided to trust the resort and pay additional for a "higher end" arrangement. We sent the wedding coordinator pictures of flower arrangements we loved and in the end they did an amazing job of creating a similar look. For Music we placed ceremony music, cocktail hour music, and reception music on a disc. We trusted the resort's DJ and I did hear from other Melia Caribe brides that they did a great job on their wedding.

5. Photography: This was dear to my heart, so not really being able to communicate with the resort's vendor, we opted to bring our own photographer - Amanda Blythe Photography from Louisiana - to capture our special day. Other brides loved the resort's vendor, so we decided to use them as our videographer. We also wanted a photo booth, but of course none of the U.S. based companies travel to the Caribbean. So being a photographer I got creative to make sure I got my way! We bought a small printer, downloaded a photo booth software on my laptop, and hooked up everything at the reception...well my bridesmaids did and everyone LOVED it. All guests needed to do was hit the space bar and pose 4 times to allow the laptop's camera to capture their picture and send it to the printer. We thought it was a hit and loved the line forming at the "photo booth" section.

6. Programs/Invitations: This is where we got creative. We created our own invitations and created the inner envelopes and added a ribbon to close the envelope. We decorated the outer envelopes using a custom made monogram and basically stamped away. The programs were created using the leftover paper stock for the inner envelope and used a heavier card stock to create the programs. We had a Catholic Ceremony so with the priest's help, we typed in our programs complete with readings, prayers, music list and traditional Filipino custom of the veil, rope, and candle ceremony.

7. Decorations: Using large and medium suitcases, we brought our decorations for the ceremony and reception! We created table numbers, fans, place cards, seating cards and more. The medium suitcase was placed inside the large suitcase and we asked someone to bring it back with them after the wedding weekend. We also bought parasols as decoration and props and created an out-of-town bag complete with a "medical kit," chopsticks and take-out boxes with candies to give something sweet to our guests, pom-poms to put on top of the napkin settings at the reception, bubbles instead of guests throwing rice or bird seeds and so much more!

10. Bridal Party: As with any bridal party, we asked if our friends/family can be part of the wedding as soon as we knew they were definitely coming. We didn't want to add the pressure of someone feeling pressured they had to come to the wedding since we just wanted them to come and celebrate our wedding and have fun. We bought everyone's dresses(RK Bridal-Alfred Angelo) and shoes for the ladies and flower girl. The men's Barong Tagalog (top) were custom made in the Philippines and we also got their pants, shoes and belts from a department store and sent shipped them all to each of them to make sure they fit. We, well ME, had a blasts shopping at Etsy that I found beautiful silk-touch flowers for me at PowderBlueBijoux and my bridesmaids at All4Brides. The  men got custom made boutonnieres from TheHeadbandShoppe and my husband's at YJDesign. Etsy is so great that we even found a lingerie name hanger from lilafrances and edible flowers for our wedding cake at MissErikas.

As for my dress, I tried my Enzoani dress "Diana" and fell in love with it! Just because we had a destiAnation wedding doesn't mean I couldn't wear the dress of my dreams! My husband got his gorgeous suit and shirt from Hugo Boss and got it tailored at the Soho location in New York City. We carried our dresses and suit with us as carry-on and the flight attendants allowed us to hang them in first class. Some brides have mentioned that certain airlines does not allow this, but we flew American Airlines and they were nice about making sure my dress (and another bride's dress) were hanging without a problem.

Courtney and Cesar's New York City Engagement Party - Ritz Carlton, Battery Park

What an amazing engagement party! Courtney and Cesar are definitely a loving pair and truly meant to be. Their vibrant personality, love for one another, and love for their family and friends showed with each laugh, gesture and smile. The view at the Rise, on the 14th floor of the Ritz Carlton Battery Park location was just amazing! The entire terrace overlooks the Hudson River, the skyline of Jersey City, and of course a view of the Statue of Liberty. We hurried to take pictures while the sun was setting, but although the beautiful sunset was over, the skyline of Jersey was a spectacular view as well as the lit Lady Liberty. A surprise fireworks display was also  the evening's entertainment. A perfect night to remember. Many of the family flew from Kansas for the event and for them the trip was worth it. Here's a few pictures from the event. Enjoy and congratulations again to Courtney and Cesar and their family! Sharda & Anna's New Jersey Wedding - Liberty House, Jersey City by Angelica Criscuolo Photography

Congratulations to Sharda and Anna! They were married at the Liberty House Restaurant grounds in Jersey City New Jersey. This New Jersey Wedding was amazing and the event was planned by Kasal NY and the beautiful floral arrangements were created by Celadon & Celery Events. Working with two great vendors who are a powerhouse in the industry is definitely an honor. Anna and Sharda loved everything about the wedding. They both looked gorgeous in their gowns as they walked down the aisle complete with bouquets distinctive of their personalities. Celadon & Celery did an amazing job with their bouquets, ceremony decor, reception and more. The cake was also a masterpiece itself since it was made by Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss himself! He and his wife even stopped by during the reception to congratulate the brides. Who doesn't love the Cake Boss and his cakes! The ceremony was memorable as the brides were escorted down the aisle with their mothers and even their precious k9 took part in the ceremony as the Ring Bearer complete in his little tux! There were smiles all around and it truly was a sight to see. The weather was perfect for this special occasion and the brides truly deserved to have a perfect happy beginning :-).

Andrea & Michael - NYC Rooftop Wedding - Ramscale by Angelica Criscuolo Photography & CC Events

Congratulations to Andrea & Michael! They were married overlooking the Hudson River on the Ramscale Terrace in NYC this past Memorial weekend (it was a busy weekend for this photographer!). The wedding was very intimate with friends and family flying in from Florida and Texas. The Bride was beautiful and Michael had a smile when Andrea walked down the aisle . For the reception, Bess Wyrick and her team from Celadon and Celery created an outdoor space indoors with a huge canopy of vines and flowers hanging above complete with gorgeous crystal chandeliers. The ceremony space was designed with a custom chuppah addorned with silk fabric, roses, and vines, and candles were lit everywhere. What a romantic sight to see! Congratulations to the amazing couple! undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Ivie & Michael Get Married - New York Wedding

Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Michael Gonzales! Ivie Joy glowed as a June bride and Michael looked dashing with his new lovely wife. They looked amazing together and their love showed for everyone to see.  They celebrated with an intimate gathering of close friends at Rouge Tomate near Central Park and Bess Wyrick, owner of Celadon & Celery designed an amazing, and breathtaking, reception that made the couple's jaw drop. This photographer had a great time capturing every angle of the event and seeing everyone laughing, sharing stories, and celebrating with the bride and groom was just a sight to see. I have no doubt many wonderful blessings will be bestowed upon Ivie and Michael since they truly deserve all the happiness in the world. A toast to the new married couple and may you both have many years of wonderful stories and adventures to share with one another!
